Description:
Bielefelders are a rare and lovely autosexing breed originating in Germany. Autosexing means the birds have great homesteading potential because you can distinguish pullets from cockerels at hatch by the color or pattern of down on the chicks. In the case of Bielefelders, the males have a distinct white spot on their heads. The Bielefelder hens lay a good number of extra large brown eggs... and they're particularly beautiful, with cuckooed red partridge plumage. Hens are quite docile, so they make excellent pets as well. The roosters are also considered docile and make a great backyard roosters.
